The new Education Secretary, Nicky Morgan, has pledged to strengthen regulations to prevent unsuitable people from running academies and free schools following the publication of a report on the so-called ‘Trojan horse’ scandal, which found evidence for the instigation of a hard line extremist Islamic ethos in a number of schools in Birmingham. BRC Continues To Push For Fundamental Reforms To Business Rates

Although research conducted earlier this month (July) found that 80 per cent of MPs in the UK believe the business rates system is “not fit for purpose”, the British Retail Consortium (BRC), which has been campaigning for a fairer tax system for businesses for many years, has shelved its proposals for alternatives, admitting it is too soon to be suggesting a format for a ready-made replacement.
