Six UK media technology start-up businesses have been chosen to exhibit at the IBC in Amsterdam this September after taking part in a Dragon’s Den-style contest last week, where they delivered a three-minute pitch and faced a grilling by industry experts.

The successful six were part of nine finalists chosen by the Digital TV Group (DTG) at their Television Innovation Awards, which are sponsored by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), in a bid to promote small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the broadcasting and media technology sector.

As DG Chairman, David Docherty, said at the time, the best of these start-ups were tackling some of the biggest challenges in the industry in fresh and innovative ways that could be hugely beneficial to UK plc.

He added that the finalists will present a great showcase for British innovation at IBC, which is the premier annual event for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of entertainment and news content worldwide.

All eyes will be on the businesses, as in 2014, the event attracted more than 55,000 attendees from 170 countries around the world, exhibiting more than 1,700 of the world’s key technology suppliers and showcasing a debate-leading conference.

The first three successful finalists are goHDR for their end-to-end HDR solution; Motive Television, for a TV tablet that brings broadcast television direct to mobiles without the need for internet connection and Parabola, which is a patent pending video encoding technology enabling live, full-quality video transcoding.

The next three were Smartzer, a retail technology that brings consumer experiences through shoppable and interactive content, TV App Agency, which focuses on developing Smart TV apps and Twocashew, which is a content management system focusing on second screen usage during a live broadcast.
