The Education Funding Agency (EFA) has published its business cycle for 2014 this week, which sets out useful information that will help academies and other institutions plan ahead.

However, the EFA points out that some of the timings on the timeline are only indicative and may change, so an eye should be kept on the regular updates published by the Agency. In addition, revised versions of the wall planner and timeline will be published at the beginning of each term.

One date to note in the very near future is January 31, as any academy trust that was open and prepared accounts at 31 August 2013 needs to submit an accounts return by that date by uploading it to the new online site.

Academies should also note that 31 January is the date of closure for applications for round 1 of the Academies’ Capital Maintenance Fund (ACMF) 2014 to 2015.

By the end of January academies should have received from the EFA the third of four pupil premium payments for the 2013 to 2014 financial year, as well as information about the 2014 Summer Schools programme, including eligibility, plus the per-pupil funding level and sign-up dates.

Then next month, academies will need to publish their admissions appeals timetable for the year and submit their business cases on funding factors and student numbers to the EFA.

During February, the EFA will issue the March accounts return request for new academy trusts open since April 1 last year that have not prepared audited accounts as at 31 August 2013.

The agency will also issue the academies’ budget forecast 2014 to 2015 request for all academies open as at 31 March 2014 and will confirm the outcome of the institution and Local Authority high needs submissions.
